Welcome to Space Coast Dive Center

This SCUBA shop has been serving the community of Palm Bay, Florida since 1988. For nearly 35 years we have been providing professional training & diver development, expert gear sales & service, and both local and international diving opportunities for divers across the Nation. Our long-standing history and service to the community allow us to stand apart from our competitors. Over the years we have seen the diving industry change and develop into the inclusive, welcoming, and safe sport that it is today. We enjoy hearing stories from seasoned divers who remember the “Good ‘Ole Days” and look forward to facilitating the adventures and stories of a new generation of divers. While the location and name of the shop has changed through the years, the spirit of service to the community lives on.

We want to share our love of diving with you. Join us for an experience you will never forget!

Our Mission

To build a community centered around a common love of diving by training competent and confident divers and dive professionals and providing opportunities to explore the underwater world.

Core Values

We are a community focused organization. Our internal community allows us to serve our external community. We share experiences, difficulties, and victories openly and with enthusiasm. We are a safe space to work and shop for all age groups and nationalities.

We share a common love of the underwater world and that love drives our commitment to conservation. We will do everything that we can to ensure that we are impacting our environment as little as possible. Every little change makes a huge difference.

Through education we allow our community to grow and develop into safer and more conscious divers. We believe that you should never stop learning and should always strive to learn new skills from professionals. We will provide programs that will allow our community to expand their diving skills in a safe and inclusive environment.

Exploring the underwater world should not be limited to your immediate location. We will provide our community with opportunities to safely explore the planet together.

Shop History

Started in 1988 as Dixie Divers of Palm Bay the diving center quickly found itself as the go-to place for modern SCUBA instruction and gear. In the late 1990s Jeff and Donna Dornbos purchased the shop and rebranded to JND Scuba Center building a following of like-minded divers that wanted to travel and see the underwater world. In 2021 after many successfully years the Dornbos’ sold the shop to two oddball cold water divers from Oregon that apart from the cold-water part shared the same passion for dive travel and community. James and Ashley having over 20 years of combined experience dove into the shop and are carrying on the journey of introducing individuals to the wonders of Scuba around the world. Now known as Space Coast Dive Center, our mission is to continue to build a community of strong and competent divers who share a mutual love for adventure and the underwater world.

Meet the Owners

James Stackhouse

James Stackhouse

James started diving in 2008 so he could do some diving excursions on a cruise with his family. They quickly abandoned him, but he did the dives anyway. He quickly fell in love with the sport and the serene experience that being underwater provides. He had always dreamed of becoming a Divemaster, the experience of helping with Open Water course spurred him into action. He enrolled in the next Divemaster course and quickly found himself passionate about teaching people to dive. Today James is a PADI IDC Staff Instructor. He enjoys teaching courses from Open Water to Rescue, and anything in between and beyond. James appreciates leading divers through the process of becoming PADI Professionals and heads our Divemaster program. His wealth of experiences provides every student with the knowledge they need to become confident divers. James has a great sense of humor and loves to tell bad “dad jokes” during every class. He says that he does not have a favorite dive location, which is probably the truth.
