Why become an Advanced Open Water Diver?
Advancing your skills in a safe environment with the guidance of a professional is what the SSI Advanced Adventurer & PADI Advanced Open Water Diver courses are all about. And no, you don’t have to be “advanced” to take it – it’s designed so you can go straight into it after you complete your Open Water Certification. These courses help you increase your confidence and build your scuba skills so you can become more comfortable in the water. This is a great way to get more dives under your belt while continuing to learn under the supervision of your Instructor.

What you can expect to learn
You will work with your instructor to customize your Advanced Open Water certification, but you will learn the following:
- Diving below 60ft
- How to navigate underwater and use a compass
- How to plan your dives
- Improve your buoyancy
- 3 Adventure Dives of your choice
The specialties you complete can be put towards earning your PADI & SSI Specialty Certification. Specialty options include Deep, Digital Underwater Imaging, Wreck Diver, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist, and Search & Rescue.
Course Equipment Requirements
Each student will be responsible for providing the following gear:
- BCD
- Regulator
- Dive Computer
- Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Etc.
- Exposure protection (if needed)
Required Specialty Equipment:
- Compass
- Primary & back-up dive light
- Slate
- Any other specialty equipment as designated by your instructor.
We have rental gear available for an additional cost.
When enrolled in a course with Space Coast Dive Center you will receive a 10% student discount on all gear purchases.

How do I get Started?
This course builds on what you’ve learned and develops new capabilities by introducing you to new activities and new ways to have fun scuba diving.
The course includes 5 dives. The Navigation and Deep dives are required. The other three are your choice, but we highly recommend Night Diving and Buoyancy. Superior buoyancy skills are the foundation for everything fun underwater from photography to conservation diving to volunteering at your local aquarium.
How long will this take?
E-learning is about 6-8 hours. The entire course is 2-3 days.
