Pompano 2 Tank Reef Dive – OW & Jr OW Friendly
August 14, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Join us for a relaxing Sunday afternoon diving the wreck of the SS Copenhagen and the Nursery Reef. The maximum depth of 40ft on these dives make them perfect for both beginner & seasoned divers. It is not uncommon to see Spotted Eagle Rays and Nurse Sharks cruising along the reef.
SS Copenhagen: Sits in around 30ft of water and at 325ft long provides each diver ample opportunity to explore its cracks and crevices. The British cargo ship Copenhagen was built by Priestman & Co. of Sunderland in 1898. The Copenhagen was owned by Glasgow Ship Owners Co. While en route from Philadelphia to Havana with 4,940 tons of coal, she ran aground on the Pompano Drop Off. Although the ship was unsalvageable, her cargo was saved. The Copenhagen remained partially visible above the water until WWII naval fighter pilots used her for target practice sending her to the bottom where she sits today. The Copenhagen was declared a State Underwater Archaeological Preserve in 1994.
